Introduction

July 20, 1969, at approximately 10:56 PM, Neil Armstrong stepped out of Apollo 11 and placed his left foot on the surface of the Moon uttering these famous words: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” (Mullen 1). This was a remarkable achievement inhuman history, yet many people do not believe that this event occurred, and a variety of conspiracy theories have developed in the years since the moon landing was made. Three main conspiracy theories perpetuated by disbelievers are:1. Optical anomalies are found in several images from the Apollo mission (Launius).2. Atmospheric conditions made it impossible for the astronauts to survive the trip.3. Data tapes and video are missing and further proof they never existed (Rabie).Dissecting the conspiracy theories surrounding the moon landing will show that Neil Armstrong unequivocally was the first astronaut to walk on the moon in 1969.
